Peter Hersh, M.D. is Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Cornea and Refractive Surgery at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Hersh is the Founder of the Cornea & Laser Eye Institute in Teaneck, New Jersey where he provides many types of Laser Eye Surgery including LASIK, Custom LASIK, PRK, LASEK and other specialized Lasik Eye Surgery procedures. Dr. Hersh received his Medical Degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School. In addition he completed a Fellowship in Corneal Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Dr. Hersh is one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the United States having performed more than 10,000 Laser eye Surgery procedures including LASIK, Custom LASIK, LASEK and other types of Lasik Eye Surgery. He was the lead author of the FDA Clinical Study that led to the approval of the Excimer Laser for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Dr. Hersh was one of two LASIK surgeons asked to present data to the FDA Ophthalmic Device Panel to support the approval of Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) for the correction of hyperopia and near vision.

Dr. Hersh has exclusively dedicated his practice to LASIK, Custom LASIK, LASEK and other Laser Eye Surgery procedures for the correction of common vision problems. As a result of his extensive clinical and research work in the area of LASIK and Refractive Surgery, Dr. Hersh has published four textbooks and more than 100 research articles and book chapters. His most recent texts include Excimer Laser Surgery for Corneal Disorders and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Hersh has trained over a thousand laser eye surgeons in excimer laser eye surgery and refractive surgery techniques including LASIK. His commitment to teaching other LASIK surgeons has taken him far from New Jersey and throughout the United States and to countries such as France, the Netherlands, China, Taiwan, India, Vietnam, Brazil, Chile, Venezuela, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, and Korea to teach LASIK Eye Surgery techniques. Moreover, he is actively involved in a number of international projects to bring Corneal and Lasik Surgery education and eye care to developing countries.

Dr. Hersh has been selected for Best Doctors in America, and is the only LASIK and Corneal surgeon to be listed in New York Magazine, New Jersey Monthly, and New Jersey Life as one of the Top Doctors in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area.
