Combination of Restasis & Systane Provides Dry Eye Relief
American Academy of Ophthalmology-November 2007
-Roy Chuck, M.D., Director of Refractive Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University-Wilmer Eye Institute reported that a combination of Restasis and Systane eye drops to treat dry eyes offered greater relief than either Systane alone or a combination of Restasis and Refresh artificial tears. Dr Chuck reported that neither therapy should be considered as first-line treatment, and should only be used after the patient has failed therapies with artificial tears alone, omega-3 fatty acids, doxy- or minocycline, and tear drainage plugs. If and when Restasis is needed, it should be used in sequential combination with artificial tears, he said.
